Today I began teaching art classes at a local art store. Not all artists enjoy teaching. Some would rather just create. But I really enjoy it. Not just teaching art, but anything else I know. I find it fulfilling to share my knowledge to make someone else's journey just a little bit easier. And I find that through teaching I learn much more than I otherwise would. In preparing for the lessons, I uncover new insights, new knowledge that I did not have before.
Some years ago, I taught art to a group of patients at a Hospice Day Care, many of whom were elderly, uneducated and had never held a paintbrush before. It gave me great pleasure to stage an exhibition for them at the end of my time with them to showcase their works. One such work is shown here.
