Dancing Lines

Dancer, Ink on Paper by Artist Bee

Some months back I attended a drawing workshop where a wonderful model danced across the floor while participants sketched frantically, trying to capture a the energy and vibrancy of her graceful movements. There was no time to think. The hand mimicked her moves on paper, darting here and there in broad sweeping curves, twirling, turning, leaping through the air. The results are very satisfying.

Gestural Drawing Ink on Paper by Artist Bee

Last week I asked my art students at the introductory Creative Journey class to do blind contour drawings. For all of them it was a new experience. They had always looked at what they drew, rather than just focus on the subject of their drawing. Blind drawings and fast gestural drawings are great ways to break free from the critical left brain and allows the innate creative intuition we possess to emerge.
